Autumn is one of the most vibrant seasons in Big Bear Lake, and the annual Big Bear Scarecrow Contest brings that energy to life. This beloved community event invites residents, local businesses, and even visitors to craft unique and imaginative scarecrow displays. What to Expect at the Scarecrow Contest
The contest runs from October 11 to November 8, with scarecrows and fall porch displays popping up all over town. Participants compete for over $7,500 in prizes, including cash rewards and memberships, which makes this a highly anticipated event each year. Categories include “Best Business Display,” “Best Residential Display,” and “People’s Choice,” giving everyone a chance to shine.
As a visitor, exploring Big Bear’s neighborhoods and businesses to see these fantastic creations is a must. Grab a map of the contest entries, and take a leisurely stroll or drive around town to enjoy each display. You can even cast your vote for your favorites, making you an essential part of the fun!

Voting is open to the public and prizes are awarded based on popular vote.

When you cast your vote, you’ll automatically be entered into a drawing for a special getaway package including:
- 2-night lodging certificate valid for March, April, or May 2025
- $100 meal voucher at select Big Bear restaurants
