Our commitment includes a switch toward utilizing energy-efficient appliances, supporting the community and enforcing regulations to protect nature and wildlife, and implementing waste reduction programs across all our properties. One small sustainable practice has been switching out single use K-pods for reusable stainless steel K-pods in all of our pod-based coffee machines, thus eliminating this single use plastic.
We also encourage our guests to minimize their environmental impact by providing resources for responsible outdoor recreation and promoting local conservation efforts. Big Bear’s Dark Sky Initiative
Care For Big Bear is spearheading the effort to promote the Dark Sky Initiative. The Initiative invites community residents, businesses and visitors to support practices that preserve the darkness of our night sky and protect the wildlife, businesses and tourism that are affect by its condition. This is an adjustment away from Care For Big Bear’s original goal to certify the City of Big Bear Lake as a Dark Sky certified community. The Dark Sky Initiative is a valley-wide movement and Care For Big Bear invites our community members in Big Bear City, Sugarloaf, Baldwin Lake, Erwin Lake, Lake Williams and Fawnskin to join us.

Big Bear Lake Front Cabins, in partnership with Kind Traveler’s Every Stay Gives Back program, supports Friends of the Big Bear Zoo. The mission of Friends of the Big Bear Zoo is to inspire understanding, respect and environmentally responsible action by the stewardship of wildlife and wildlife habitat through conservation, education, volunteer support, and fundraising. Through our community impact program, $1 per night will fund Friends of the Big Bear Zoo. 100% of funds are given to Friends of the Big Bear Zoo.
